Small electric molding machine for micro-molding with clamping force of 15 tons is newly developed

Nissei Plastic Industrial Co., Ltd. has developed "ELJECT NEX150", an ultra-compact type high precision electric injection molding machine with clamping force of 15 tons (147kN).

The market for molding machine (with its clamping force of less than 19 tons) to be used for ultra small precision parts mainly for digital camera, mobile phone and hard disk has been rapidly growing recently.

The company puts this newly developed machine on the market for ultra-small precision parts, as a series NEX which has been already started being sold since last June and has been highly regarded by users. As a result, "ELJECT NEX150", together with electric machine of 5 ton (EP5 Real Mini) and hydraulic machine of 7 ton machines (NP7 Real Mini) will be able to meet the wider needs by users.

The main molding materials for "NEX150" are liquid crystal polymer (LCP) for engineering plastics, polyamide (PA 6, 66, 12) and polyphenylenesulfide (PPS). Product to be molded are ultra small precision parts for digital home appliances such as shutter of digital camera, pick-up lens holder, lens holder for mobile phone and fine pitch-connector, all weigh between 0.1g and less than 5g for one shot.

The feature of this molding machine, using servomotor for injection driving, it becomes possible to select from standard belt drive system and center drive as option. An injection speed is 330mm/sec for belt drive, 500mm/sec for center drive, both systems are highly responsible for quick starting injection. Especially, center drive system permits the quickest starting injection with fastest injection speed.

It also include exclusive controller "TACT" which high speed controlling is possible with fast injection scanning time is 100 micro seconds (one ten thousandth second).

Injection mechanism
(1) To fit the engineering plastics use, the most suitable screw design is applied for precision measuring and high cycle specification.
(2) To adopt the most appropriate temperature control including hopper throat and nozzle.
(3) Selecting the most appropriate connector nozzle is possible in line with the type and grade of molding material.
(4) Adopting a pulling method of two nozzle touch to maintain the most suitable parallel degrees.

Clamping mechanism
(1) New mold clamping mechanism "Flat Clamp", ideal for high-cycle and precision molding: This has been achieved by the introduction of movable platen of innovative design based on structural analysis, combined with the stationary platen that has a support at the center, it offers clamping force 20 tons-level rigidity. It provides uniform mold clamping force with less deflection.
(2) The tie bars clearance is as wide as 260 x 260mm that enables mounting of mold with clamping force of 20 tons.
(3) Clamping toggle is operated in shock less high-cycle with new 5-point link.
(4) Mold opening/closing operations and ejector action are newly performed at a higher speed, and the time from mold clamping to product take-out (a dry cycle) has been shortened by 35% in comparison with the existing machines.
(5) New mold protection function: The "ultra high speed reaction operation" has been realized, which reacts and opens the mold at a very high speed immediately after the sensing element detects any foreign matter during mold clamping. Damage of a mold can be prevented from happening.
Moreover, this machine is designed compactly with stiff bed. Mounting surveillance system with infrared rays is possible as a first trial in the industry. The function to control and confirm the product left behind in the machine can be shown on the same screen on the controller "TACT".

A new man-machine interface controller "TACT", using 12.1-inch color LC display with tilt device enables to put any screen angle adjusted to operator's height.
Features of the function:
(1) Equipped with various controlling program such as holding pressure positioning control, clamping compression and in-mold processing.
(2) Controller can be operated in any of the following six languages (standard specification): English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Thai. These languages can be switched immediately.
(3) User interface ladder circuit: Simple interface programs with peripheral devices can be created freehand on the molding machine screen.
(4) Compact flash card used as external storage (optional): In addition to molding conditions and wave profile data, image data can also be stored, thus permitting the user to manage molding conditions together with the corresponding sample images. (Operation standard with illustrative images can also be displayed on the TACT screen)
(5) Buildup of quality control capability: Molding monitor items was expanded, and the data from monitoring of molding operations can be compiled in a statistical form so that they can be used for acceptance criteria.
(6) Equipped with LAN connector (standardized specification): The connector provides ready connection (without an adaptor) with quality and production control system (NC-NET). This allows the users to obtain a management system for production and quality control and analysis of molding at low cost.
(7) Memorization of 300 molding conditions inside.
