Nissei exihibits latest six injection molding machines at "NPE 2006"
| April 2006 [News Release] |
Nissei Plastic Industrial plans to exhibit a total of six machines at the NPE 2006 show in Chicago to be held June 19 through 23 as well as a quality and production management system under the theme of "Pursuing Further Added Value." The six machines are headed by an upgraded series of NEX electric molding machines, an electric two-color dissimilar molding machine, and a new hybrid molding machine.
1. Electric High-Performance Injection Molding Machine ELJECT "NEX Series"
This series comprises new models that feature enhanced precision repeatability and faster speeds compared with the previous mainstay electric injection molding machine NEX Series models. The NEX50 with clamping force of 490 kN (50 tons) and the NEX180 with clamping force of 1765 kN (180 tons) will be exhibited.
The enhanced performance features of this series are 1) clamping force feedback control for automatic correction of clamping force, 2) faster speed and response for injection speed, and 3) a new upgraded version of the dedicated TACT controller.
The function for automatic correction of clamping force was developed to realize a "direct-pressure-type toggle mechanism," and it is a function that utilizes the wealth of technology accumulated related to the direct-pressure clamping mechanism that Nissei has devoted significant resources to over the years that enables use of the toggle clamping mechanism with the same feeling as direct-pressure clamping.
This function eliminates the demerits of toggle clamping, automatically corrects variations in the clamping force caused by temperature rises in the mold and other components during automatic operation and continuous operation of the molding machine, and also enables changing of the clamping force during operation.
The characteristics of this function are 1) enabling the changing of clamping force with the same feeling as a direct-pressure clamping mechanism during molding and molding set up, 2) enabling shifting to the mass production phase before the tie-bar shaft temperature has become constant, and improving the yield of molded products, 3) enabling preservation of the initial precision of the tool because excess setting of clamping force is not required, and 4) significant improvement in the performance of the mold clamping mechanism (low-pressure clamping) and detection of ultra-thin contaminants.
Through equipping this function, the performance of the clamping mechanism "Flat Clamp" of this molding machine, which is suited for fast cycle, precision molding, is further improved.
Because faster injection speeds and faster response enable fast molding cycles and precision molding, as well as molding of thin-walled products, a low inertia servo motor has been employed as the driving source, and higher speed, faster response injection speed has been achieved.
The injection speed of the 50 ton clamping force molding machine is 500 mm/s, which is 1.5-times that of the previous machine (330 mm/s), and accompanying this, the injection ramp-up time has been improved in terms of response by approximately 2.7-fold. As a result, high quality and stable molding of thin-walled products has become possible.
With enhanced functionality and improved operability of the molding machine as the objectives, the dedicated TACT controller has been upgraded and now features new control functions such as 1) injection filling correction operation and precision metering control and 2) simplified setting of the high sensitivity mold protection function.
This series comprises of ten machines starting with the 147-kN (15 ton) clamping force NEX15 up to the 4,460-kN (460 ton) NEX460.

2. Electric, Two-Color Dissimilar Material Injection Molding Machine ELJECT "DCE140"
This machine is the largest member of the series that underwent a full model change in 1994, with a clamping force of 1370 kN (140 tons), a clamping stroke of 400 mm, and daylight of 850 mm. It caters to demand for increasingly diversified two-color products.
The main feature of this machine is the incorporation of the new double flat clamp clamping mechanism.
This mechanism can transmit clamping force uniformly to the two faces of the mold during molding, enabling precise and stable molding, and moreover, it is also very effective when the projected areas of the product are unbalanced on the primary and secondary sides of the mold.
Other characteristics are as follows: 1) a high torque servo motor is employed for mold rotation within the clamping mechanism that translates to fast cycling, and also achieves higher rotation speed and shockless mold rotation movement. The rotation time is 0.9 s when the two halves of the largest mold are attached. 2) A clean rotation mechanism that does not employ much grease. 3) Simultaneous molding operations are possible (rotation while opening the mold for example), and this contributes to faster cycle times. 4) A new high-performance mold protection function is incorporated and through "ultra-high speed reaction operation," mold damage can be prevented before it happens. 5) A non-contact rotation and retracting mechanism is employed in the rotating platen, and this achieves higher precision in the rotating platen and longer life for the machine and mold.
The highly rated NEX series injection mechanism is employed as this machine's injection unit and responding to the shift towards thin-walled parts, an injection unit with high injection speed of 300 mm/s is featured as standard.
In addition, the dedicated TACT controller's standard features are numerous and include 1) a class-leading injection control cycle of 100 micro second (one-ten thousandth of a second), 2) various control programs featured as standard that are required for molding tasks such as holding pressure position control, and 3) six languages including Japanese, English, and Chinese.

3. Quality Control/Production Management System "PQ Manager"
This quality control and production management system can be applied to a variety of applications, from group control of quality and production information for up to 30 molding machines to quality analysis of a single molding machine.
The major characteristics are:
Through merely connecting a TACT-outfitted machine to a notebook computer via a LAN cable, the injection profile and monitor date trend for each shot can be correlated with changes in molding parameters and error events and freely analyzed. Expensive measuring equipment is not required whatsoever.
Through connecting several TACT-outfitted machines and a computer via LAN, a group control system is formed.
If limiting to production monitoring, centralized production of machines outfitted with Nissei's old controller, and even other companies' machines, is possible.
Besides these, new models such as the new FNX140 hybrid injection molding machine that incorporates the new concept X Pump System based on the fusing of electric and hydraulic types are scheduled to be exhibited.
